Rostraver/Belle Vernon Primary Care Practice Expands in To Serve Growing Community
(July 10, 2013 - Carroll Township, Pa.)
Beginning in September, Joanna R. Swauger, D.O., a well-respected family practitioner who provides medical care from pediatrics to geriatrics in her Belle Vernon office, will welcome a second physician to her practice, Lauren H. Ayersman, D.O.
"I love the continuity of family practice," said Dr. Ayersman. "I enjoy hearing about my patients' children, parents and siblings. It makes me feel connected."
"I am thrilled to have Dr. Ayersman join my practice," said Dr. Swauger. "We seem to have very similar practice styles in the way that we care for patients and families, placing high-quality care and preventative medicine first, and involving patients in their health care. These qualities help to build great patient-doctor relationships, and thus she will be an asset to enhancing the health of the people in the Mon Valley area."
A native of Hazelton, Pa., Dr. Ayersman knew that a medical career was in her destiny. The daughter of an Emergency Room nurse, she was surrounded by medicine her entire life. Her passion for medicine blossomed while she spent time at the hospital with her mother.
Prior to relocating to Southwestern Pennsylvania, Dr. Ayersman was an outpatient family medicine physician for Health Quest Medical Practice in Rhinebeck, New York. When she began her medical career, she was affiliated with Crystal Run Healthcare and Orange Regional Medical Center in New York.
Dr. Ayersman earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Temple University and graduated from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She also studied medical acupuncture for physicians at Helms Medical Institute.
In addition to serving as the Family Medicine Chief Resident for the Lehigh Valley Health Network, Dr. Ayersman was one of the first five medical residents in the nation to work in a P4 residency program. P4 is a national project involving a complete residency redesigned for family medicine.
"I am a proponent of preventative medicine," said Dr. Ayersman. "I encourage my patients to exercise and to lead active and lifestyles. The benefits are invaluable because they help to lower blood pressure and reduce the onset of diabetes."
Dr. Ayersman and her husband, Justin Ayersman, are awaiting the birth of their first child who is due in early July. They are the proud owners of a Boxer named Laila. Although she was born in eastern Pennsylvania, Dr. Ayersman is a loyal fan of the Pirates and Penguins.
