Breast Cancer Group Donates to
Monongahela Valley Hospital

Family members of the late Lois Orange Ducoeur and organizers of the annual breast cancer walk named in her honor donated more than $5,200 this week to Monongahela Valley Hospital.

Charleroi residents Thomas O. Ducoeur and Lois Ruschak, son and granddaughter of the late Lois Orange Ducoeur, along with walk committee member Donna Angelo, presented the check to Louis J. Panza, Jr., president and CEO of MVH.

The funds will be used for MVH’s Charles L. and Rose Sweeney Melenyzer Pavilion and Regional Cancer Center. This year’s donation increases the walk’s total contribution to MVH to more than $37,000.

“It’s generosity like this that pays tribute to your loved ones and helps us provide others in the Valley with cutting-edge cancer care,” Mr. Panza said.

Ms. Angelo said the 8th Annual Lois Orange Ducoeur Memorial Breast Cancer Awareness Walk is a one- or two-mile fun walk held each October to benefit MVH and the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition.

More than 300 people attended this year.

Since 2007, TEAM Charleroi Business and Community Alliance — operating in conjunction with the Mon Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce — has organized the walk. From 2003 to 2007, the Charleroi Main Street Program ran the event. MVH is one of the walk sponsors.
