UP IN PUBLIC SERVICE PARALLELS ERIN SINKO’S NEW
DUTIES AS CONCIERGE AT MVH
Erin K. Sinko has been named to the position of Concierge
Manager at Monongahela Valley Hospital.
In the newly created
Concierge position, Sinko will provide assistance to
patients and guests for any non-medical
services during their visit to MVH, whether as a patient
or a visitor to the hospital.
She will provide information
on overnight accommodations for hospital visitors, where
to obtain a good local meal,
public transportation or places to worship. During a
hospital stay, she may recommend vendors for services
to patients such as pet sitting, lawn care or even house
sitting. Any fees for service from the vendor and set
up by the Mrs. Sinko will be the patient’s or family
member’s responsibility.
The Concierge concept
was instituted at the hospital to extend customer service
to patient and visitors. It
is an innovative approach to patient-focused care.
Sinko
will assist the patient or visitor with requests that
may afford them additional time during their time
of need so they may devote more time to the
healing process.
Sinko worked in several departments at MVH since joining
the MVH team in 1989, including patient services, outpatient
registration, medical records,
admissions
and nutritional services giving her a special knowledge and background of the
hospital’s procedures. She also has strong ties to the mid-Monongahela
Valley. She comes from a family of six children and is particularly proud of
her families’ longevity in public service to Mon Valley residents. She
is the daughter of retired U.S. Congressman Austin J. Murphy and her mother
is a retired operating room nurse at MVH.
Sinko wants to continue in her family’s
legacy of public service. Sinko says, “I feel right in my element and
I want to be here to give comfort, help and provide service to everyone who
needs it. I want all patients and
their families and visitors to feel welcome and to know if they need assistance
they need only to call or stop by the Concierge desk. This is a great opportunity
for the hospital and the community and I am happy to be a part of the new
initiative. We want everyone to have the best stay possible and
we want to help our patient and their families in any
way we can.”
“
In addition to my service to MVH’s guests, I want to reach out
to the mid-Mon Valley business community and develop partnerships to
enhance and increase
the assistance the Concierge can provide,” Sinko said. “One
of my main goals is to develop relationships with willing business partners
in
the community to recommend their products and services to our patients
and their families,” she noted.
As part of Sinko’s new responsibilities
she will be recruiting new “Ask
Me Greeters” and managing the program at MVH. A major part of
this recruitment process will be speaking to community service groups,
retirement
communities
and civic organizations about the hospital’s programs and services.
Sinko’s plan for the program is to provide a more
welcoming feeling to the public. “For many years
my family and I have been strong advocates of the hospital
and I hope to show our patients and guests
the many excellent
programs and services MVH provides – and to build a stronger
community commitment,” Sinko said.
The Concierge desk is located
in Monongahela Valley Hospital’s main lobby
adjacent to the information desk. Sinko is confident that many people
will utilize the service. “This service is just one piece to
a variety of customer service initiatives that MVH will be implementing
in the very near
future,” she said.
Sinko has been a member of the American
Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Business and Professional Women
of
Pennsylvania. She has volunteered in many different
capacities for several organizations including the
American Heart Association, Edwards Chapel Nursery,
Girl Scouts of Pa., Ringgold High School Choir Boosters
and at California University of PA.
Erin and her
husband Frank are avid gardeners and reside in Monongahela.
They have three grown children.
