Hospital staff serve as "champions" or "liaisons" with the school districts. Meetings are conducted with school superintendents and school other personnel to reinforce our commitment to the program and to plan a yearly calendar of programs and events.

INTRODUCTION

Frazier High School is located 30miles due south of Pittsburgh. Our high school has 25 teachers, 4 computer labs, a library, a gymnasium, a weight room, and an auditorium.

Our school offers advanced courses in Physics, Chemistry, English, Calculus, American History, and European History. Basic math, science, English, and history courses are also offered. The school also gives the option of business programs; accounting, general office, or secretarial courses. There are also activities galore that students can participate in when they are not studying.

Our activities include our famous band, Honor society, a Foreign Language Club, a Computer Club, a Community Service Club, Mock Trial, an Ecology Club, Health Club, Math Club, Drama Club, and we even have an FBLA chapter. Other activities include newspaper, yearbook, and an Academic team. There are also a few sports for both boys and girls to contribute to.

Our school has a football team, baseball, softball, boys' and girls' basketball, girls' volleyball, and golf.

But this school isn't any good without excellent students, and our school has plenty of them. Our gifted students actively participate in the community while they still find ways to do well in school.

Other services we offer to our students to assure them that they can do well in school are services like Peer Tutoring.

Block Sheduling Method

At Frazier High School, students attend school under the block sheduling method. This format allows students to have only 4 classes per day. They remain in these specific classes for a whole semester, or 2 nine week grading periods.

One affect of the whole-semester classes are the abundance of tests. Every nine weeks, the students have a major test. After the first nine weeks, there are midterms and then at the end of the following nine weeks, there is a final. Depending on the student, this can either help the student or hurt them. The midterms and finals are worth 15% of the class grade.

A day at Frazier consists of the following: the late bell for first period rings at 7:32am; second period starts at 9:07am; next there is Activity Period. In Activity period, students have lunch one half and homeroom the other half. This time period is useful for clubs and organizations because it gives them a time to have meetings or practices. Next, is third period, which begins at 11:49am. Lastly, is fourth period which begins at 1:21pm. The end of the day finally comes as the bell rings at 2:50pm.

Most Frazier Students seem to prefer the block scheduling. They can't seem to imagine having 8 or 9 classes a day. They can't imagine having twice as much homework! Having 4 classes makes the day go by quickly. On the negative side, missing 1 day is almost equal to missing 2 days. Since there are 85 minutes compared to 45 minutes, teachers have to teach twice as much each day to get finished by the end of the semester. Block scheduling, along with many other things, has its benefits and downfalls.
