OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
For years, Monongahela Valley Hospital has worked with
numerous organizations to help improve the community through
donations to charitable organizations or simply by lending
a helping hand.
To help the youth of this community, Monongahela Valley
Hospital awards $1000 scholarships to eligible high school
seniors who plan to major in nursing at a post-secondary
school.
It is no secret that attending any type of schooling after
high school is expensive. Most students in institutions
of higher learning not only find themselves studying a subject
of interest but also working diligently at a part time or
even full time job to make ends meet. If the student belongs
to a middle class family, which is often the case, they
maybe denied financial aid because their parents make slightly
more income than allowed. The student’s only resource
is to find other ways of obtaining funds to help them through
school.
Monongahela Valley Hospital has developed a way to help
students finance their education, and ensure a full time
position upon graduation.
High school seniors in the districts of Belle Vernon Area,
Bentworth, California, Charleroi, Monessen, Ringgold and
Yough are all qualified to participate.
The requirements for applicant’s eligibility are:
- Be a graduating senior in the class of 2007.
- Present a Letter of Acceptance into a post-secondary
NLN approved school of professional nursing.
- Have a 3.25 cumulative grade point average by the end
of the first semester of the applicant’s senior
year.
- Submit an application by April 18, 2007 along with an
essay titled “I will be a great nurse because…”
in 200 words or less.
A selection committee comprised of not more than four members
of Monongahela Valley Hospital will evaluate applications
and recommend each school’s scholarship recipient.
Recipients are asked to sign a commitment form to Monongahela
Valley Hospital, ensuring that they will work for the hospital
for at least one year upon graduation and maintain full-time
status with a grade point average of 2.5 while enrolled
in their post-secondary NLN accredited school of professional
nursing.
All students within these districts are strongly encouraged
to participate in this program. For more information and
a complete application, please see your high school’s
guidance office or contact the hospital at 724-258-1105.
