George R. Sweeney Jr. Elected To Health System's Boards

George R. Sweeney Jr. of Rostraver Township has been elected to the Board of Trustees of Monongahela Valley Hospital and to the Board of Directors of its parent company, Mon-Vale Health Resources, Inc.

Sweeney, manager of operations for the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County, fills vacancies on both boards created by the retirement from active service and transition to Emeritus status of his father, George R. Sweeney II, whose tenure as a board member with the health system spanned 15 years.

"We are very pleased with the election of Mr. Sweeney to both boards," Anthony M. Lombardi, president and chief executive officer of Mon-Vale Health Resources, Inc., said. "His experience, expertise and commitment will enhance the efforts of the boards and benefit our health system and our community. In addition, he will be perpetuating a heritage of community service exemplified by his father and the Sweeney family for many years."

Prior to being named to his present position with the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County, Sweeney worked as a chemist and quality control technician with the agency. He also has worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

Sweeney received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry with honors from St. Vincent College in Latrobe and also completed studies at the Graduate School of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh.

He is a past president of the Water Works Association of Pennsylvania, serves on the Pennsylvania DEP Water Resource Board, and is a member of the American Water Works Association.

Sweeney is the father of two daughters, Lauren and Lindsay, and a son, Michael.
