Rehabilitation

Monongahela Valley Hospital Rehabilitation provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services helping make the recovery process as streamlined as possible.

Through these services, patients learn to lead as independent and productive lives as possible. Rehabilitation Services addresses injuries, illnesses and delays affecting many body systems including muscular, skeletal, neurologic, cardiac, pulmonary and integumentary. Goals of patient treatment programs can include relieving pain, regaining movement, improving strength, attaining higher independence, improving patient safety and improving communication abilities.

Speech, Occupational and Physical Therapy

Our team of Rehabilitation professionals is dedicated to providing high-quality patient care to individuals of all age groups including pediatric services through our free-standing Center for Children's Rehabilitation.

Our hospital-based rehabilitation department offers highly personalized physical, occupational and speech therapy programs administered by licensed therapists.

Areas of specialization include Orthopedic, Musculoskeletal and Neurological disorders. Therapy programs focus on relieving pain, promoting healing and restoring function and movement. Through the use of various modalities and "hands-on" techniques, we work together with patients and their family members to meet mutually determined short and long-term goals.

Speech-Language Pathology
Treatment programs focus on the assessment and management of communication, hearing, and swallowing disorders related to disease processes or injuries. Treatment procedures include, but are not limited to, techniques to facilitate expressive language, auditory comprehension, cognitive recovery and swallowing function.

Occupational Therapy
Treatment programs focus on helping patients regain, develop and build skills essential for independent functioning, health, and well-being after injury/illness. Therapists use individualized treatment programs to improve one's ability to perform activities of daily living (ADL) which include ADL training, therapeutic exercise, household management, cognitive skills training, visual/perceptual training and splinting.

Physical Therapy
Treatment programs focus on the prevention and/or management of functional losses from injuries and illnesses. Treatment procedures include, but are not limited to, gait training, therapeutic exercise and functional activities as well as superficial heat and cold, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, bracing and orthotics, facilitation and relaxation techniques.

Aquatic Physical Therapy
Aquatic physical therapy offers the benefits of land-based therapy in a warm water pool. The buoyancy and warmth of the water help to reduce pain and stiffness while improving range of motion, strength and functionality. Our Aquatic Therapy Program is located within the Mon-Vale HealthPLEX at WillowPointe Plaza in Rostraver. This leading-edge facility includes a 900-square-foot therapy pool heated to 92 degrees, meeting the standards of the Arthritis Foundation of America.

The site also includes a 75-foot, four-lane indoor lap pool, state-of-the art exercise equipment, child-care services, and van service for selected areas at no cost.

Physical therapists are trained in aquatic therapy.
